- Reported by RiverheadLOCAL, "Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations, Sam Schneider, Riverhead Central School District’s long-term business official will be hired by the East Hampton Union Free School District, after being demoted and 'reassigned' pending an investigation begun in October into an undisclosed allegation." (RiverheadLOCAL)
- Former Newsday reporter Bill Bleyer presents "Maritime Smuggling on Long Island: From Pirates to Rumrunners," an online, virtual illustrated lecture March 20, 4-5p.m. "Discover why pirates like Captain Kidd were attracted to Long Island at the turn of the 18th century and how a visit by Kidd to Gardiners Island led to him dying on the gallows in London," wrote FishersIsland.net. - East Hampton Town is becoming a safer place to live. Only 607 people were arrested last year, down by 25 percent, according to police statistics. (Subscription: upgrade.27east.com)
- Manuel C. Chillogalli-Suqui, 43, an East Hampton man, was charged with driving while intoxicated on Saturday after he was found asleep in his vehicle and partially blocking a roadway, police said. Chillogalli-Suqui had the strong odor of alcohol on his breath; bloodshot, glassy eyes; and slurred speech, police said. Chillogalli-Suqui was arrested and charged with felony DWI, due to having two previous convictions for the same offense in 10 years, police said. (East Hampton Patch)
