1. Reported by RiverheadLOCAL, "Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations, Sam Schneider, Riverhead Central School District’s long-term business official will be hired by the East Hampton Union Free School District, after being demoted and 'reassigned' pending an investigation begun in October into an undisclosed allegation." (RiverheadLOCAL)
2. Former Newsday reporter Bill Bleyer presents "Maritime Smuggling on Long Island: From Pirates to Rumrunners," an online, virtual illustrated lecture March 20, 4-5p.m. "Discover why pirates like Captain Kidd were attracted to Long Island at the turn of the 18th century and how a visit by Kidd to Gardiners Island led to him dying on the gallows in London," wrote FishersIsland.net. 3. East Hampton Town is becoming a safer place to live. Only 607 people were arrested last year, down by 25 percent, according to police statistics. (Subscription: upgrade.27east.com)
4. Manuel C. Chillogalli-Suqui, 43, an East Hampton man, was charged with driving while intoxicated on Saturday after he was found asleep in his vehicle and partially blocking a roadway, police said. Chillogalli-Suqui had the strong odor of alcohol on his breath; bloodshot, glassy eyes; and slurred speech, police said. Chillogalli-Suqui was arrested and charged with felony DWI, due to having two previous convictions for the same offense in 10 years, police said. (East Hampton Patch)
