Here are the top stories in East Hampton today:

1. Most people do not associate Long Island with slavery, but in truth, it existed. According to Shades of Long Island, "On Long Island, enslaved people of African heritage lived and worked on the farms and homes of any family with means from the mid 1600s to 1827. The Plain Sight Project, founded by David Rattray of East Hampton and Donnamarie Barnes of Sag Harbor, hopes to educate the East End of Long Island on this forgotten past, as well as, “restore the stories of the enslaved and free people of color to their essential place in American history.”(Shades of Long Island)
2. The East Hampton Town Board voted last Thursday to postpone the planned temporary closure of East Hampton Airport and its reopening as a new, private-use airport following an executive session to discuss the plan, which has incited furious opposition and multiple lawsuits by interests from airport users and the aviation industry. 3. Suffolk County's National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) invites residents who are at risk for developing type-2 diabetes to participate, free of charge, in this program. According to the press release, to enroll in the Diabetes Prevention Program, residents must meet 3 criteria: Must be over the age of 18, and have a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than or equal to 25 (23 for Asian Americans) AND one of the following: a score of 5 or higher on the CDC risk test, have had gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), or have had certain blood-test results that indicate they are at risk for developing diabetes.
