From Mattituck to Montauk: Fireworks, Food, Fun & Fairs

The Fourth of July may be over but that doesn’t mean the fireworks or fairs are gone until next year. There are still plenty of summertime community celebrations for all to enjoy on the East End of Long Island.

On the North Fork, Mattituck will hold its 37th annual Old Fashioned Street Fair from 10 until 4 p.m. on Saturday. The event features live entertainment, food, fun and crafts including a competition for Little Ms. and Mr. Mattituck. The fair is held at the intersection of Love and Pike Streets and sponsored by the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce.

Also on the North Fork there will be a benefit for the Southold Historical Society from 5 to 8 on Saturday evening. Tickets cost $75 and include light refreshments. This year’s event honors Peggy Murphy, the former vice president of the Southold Historical Society. The Historical Society is located on the Main Road in Southold.

On the South Fork, on Saturday and Sunday, the Montauk Historical Society is sponsoring a two-day craft fair at the Second House Museum. There will be lots of handmade items for sale as well as delicious food and live entertainment on tap for all. The fair hours of operation are from 10 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday.

In the middle of the North and South Forks, Shelter Island will hold its 57th annual fireworks show at Crescent Beach on Saturday night. The show is free and sponsored by the Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce. Parking is at Goat Hill. The fireworks begin at dusk and guests are encouraged to bring picnics and blankets. In case of rain the event will be postponed until Sunday, July 13.
