Independence Party Screens Candidates Next Week

The party starts its search for the November 2013 election.

The East Hampton Independence Party is starting to look for possible candidates for its 2013 ballot.

The party will hold screenings for candidates on April 23 at Ashawagh Hall in Springs, starting at 6 p.m.

The positions they will be screening for are town supervisor, town board, town clerk, superintendent of highways, town justice, assessors, and town trustees.

Candidates who want to screen are asked to provide their resumes and contact either Elaine Jones, the chairwoman, at 631-267-8820, or Pat Mansir, vice chairwoman, at 324-4131.

In 2011, the East Hampton Independence Party ran two town board candidates; William Mott and Marilyn Behan.

The local party endorsed Zachary Cohen, the East Hampton Democratic candidate for supervisor in 2011, but Bill Wilkinson, the Republican incumbent, appeared on the ballot. State and Suffolk County Party Chairman Frank MacKay signed a document known as the Wilson Pakula for Wilkinson.
