“Death Hampton,” by Walter Marks, a resident of East Hampton, debuted last month. It is Marks’ third novel and introduces Detective Neil Jericho, a former NYPD homicide detective, previously assigned to East Harlem who has relocated to East Hampton.
Jericho is burnt out after years of working the violent streets of New York City. He makes the move to East Hampton in the belief that he will escape the intrigue and mayhem of big city life. However, the village is not as sleepy and peaceful as it first appears. There is an undercurrent of violence, greed and lust complete with power struggles and murder.
At first, Jericho feels out-of-place in the Hamptons, but finds his way by solving a puzzling murder case that demands all the skills he thought he’d left behind.
The Kirkus review gave top marks to Walter Marks' first novel: "Tightly written, and the two-steps-forward-one-step-back plot generates considerable suspense. A promising debut....."
