Martha Stewart To Judge Summer Plantings In East Hampton

You too can tour LongHouse, the garden/museum she calls "extraordinary."

EAST HAMPTON, NY – Want to tour 16 acres of paradise in East Hampton? Well, you have your chance beginning June 25 when LongHouse Reserve, a remarkable art garden and museum, situated in East Hampton hosts its highly anticipated horticultural event: Planters: ON + OFF THE GROUND VIII garden container invitational.

And gardening expert extraordinaire Martha Stewart is returning to judge the ON + OFF competition. This year it is being held in honor of the not-for-profit organization’s 25th Jubilee year; Stewart first judged the event in LongHouse’s inaugural year.

LongHouse was founded by textile designer Jack Lenor Larsen who will be on hand June 25 autographing copies of his new book Learning From LongHouse, which includes 75 images of the extraordinary gardens and art, plus landscaping tips and tricks.

Stewart has always been enamored by the property she called β€œfabulous” on her blog. β€œThe design of the house was inspired by a 7th century Shinto shrine and it sits upon 16 acres of fabulous gardens and incredible exhibits of art. Through its arboretum, sculpture gardens, and educational programs, LongHouse Reserve exemplifies living with art in all forms,” Stewart writes.

From the planting masterpieces in the vast garden to the sculptures by artists as diverse as Willem de Kooning, Eric Fiscal and Yoko Ono, there’s a feast for your mind and your eyes. Plus, there will be a silent auction of rare and unusual plants.
