The reality is gas prices on the East End are about to reach into the $4 to $5 range Depending on what octane you buy and if you pay in cash.

Already part of the conversation is where you can go up Island to find cheaper gas. Sadly the difference is a fraction and even those locations are seeing the price rise.

On the East End there are no subways and there are no multiple bus routes that are efficient and convenient to get to markets and other places one must go. Sadly East Enders are collateral damage in the war against carbon emissions. Nobody in their right mind wants to see the planet earth destroyed because of human behavior concerning energy.

I live like many other older folks on a fixed income and while it’s true many who own homes have seen the value of their homes increase one cannot use that gained potential profit to pay the extra $200 and growing per month increase in energy costs.

There is the chain reaction affect that higher fuel prices have on the cost to deliver products to super markets and other stores. Even Amazon is now charging a minimum of $10 to deliver groceries when just a few months ago it was free. Obviously this cost will not go down but most likely up as fuel prices continue to march upward as part of the worlds commitment to fightCarbon omissions.

Soon the Montauk fleet will have to consider parking boats back on the land as they did when gas spiked to over five dollars a gallon a few years back.

Around the east end portals for electric cars have been installed and that perhaps it’s a sign of the future however the majority of EastEnders drive cars that run on gasoline or diesel fuel. This will be a growing problem for older folks on fixed income who also happen to be the largest voting block across the country.

You cannot have your cake and eat it too so something has to give on this energy issue. My advice is to politely notify all of your elected officials from the town to the state to the national level that this situation must be addressed sooner than later otherwise the inflation it causes will eventually crater into other issues. In the end it will be the poorest the least fortunate and the very old will feel the sting of this growing high energy price situation that exists right now.
