Thanksgiving Movie Guide

When the big meal is done, it may be time to kick back and catch a movie or two. Here are some new and recent premieres playing in our area.

• In “Black Nativity,” a Baltimore teen who was raised by a single mother visits his estranged New York relatives and discovers inspiration. The holiday musical was adapted from a play by Langston Hughes and stars Jacob Latimore, Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett and Jennifer Hudson. Rated PG. Opens Nov. 27.
• Disney’s new animated film “Frozen,” tells the tale of a princess, Anna (Kristen Bell), who joins forces with a mountain man  named Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), and his reindeer to find her sister, Elsa (Idina Menzel), who has unexpectedly brought eternal winter to the kingdom. Rated PG. Opens Nov. 27.
• The thriller “Homefront,” tells the story of a retired DEA-agent relocates his family into a new community, only to discover this is no place to settle down. Starring James Franco, Jason Statham , Winona Ryder , Kate Bosworth , Rachelle Lefevre Rated R. Opens Nov. 27.
• In “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), is home after the 74th Annual Hunger Games, only to have to leave her friends and family for a Victors Tour for the next challenge. Already in theaters, the film also stars  Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Banks, Jena Malone, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hucherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson and Josh Hutcherson. In theaters. Rated PG-13.
• “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” is a biopic of South African President Nelson Mandela, starring Idris Elba. Rated PG-13. Opens Nov. 29.
• In Spike Lee’s thriller, “Oldboy,” a man (Josh Brolin) sets out on a mission to find out why he was incarcerated for the past 20 years. The film also stars Elizabeth Olsoen, Sharlto Copley , Nate Parker  and James Ransone.
• In “Thor: The Dark World,” the Marvel superhero fights to save the planet. The film star Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins.
