13 Kids, School Bus Driver, Injured In Nassau Crash: Police

The elementary school bus and pickup truck collided on Monday afternoon, police say. The pickup driver also suffered injuries, police say.

EAST MEADOW, NY — Fifteen people, 13 of them children, were injured when a school bus and pickup truck collided in East Meadow on Monday afternoon, Nassau police said.

A 2009 Toyota pickup truck traveling south on Old Westbury Road collided with a 2005 school bus carrying kindergarten through fifth-grade children near Melanie Drive at 3:40 p.m., officers said.

The 66-year-old man driving the school bus and 13 of the 41 children on board were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The 57-year-old man driving the truck suffered injuries to his hip and was brought to a nearby hospital. He was listed in stable condition, police said.

No criminality was reported, and the vehicles were inspected.
