2 Arrested After Loaded Gun Found During Traffic Stop: Nassau Police

Police say the officers found the gun while searching the car to impound it. The driver and passenger were arrested.

UNIONDALE, NY — Two people from Queens were arrested Wednesday night after Nassau County police say a loaded handgun was found in their car.

According to police, officers saw a 2015 Mercedes C320 make a traffic infraction on Smith Street in Uniondale at 10:55 p.m. The officers pulled the car over, and police say they found that the car's registration and insurance had been suspended.

The officers began to impound the car, and while conducting an inventory check, police say they found a loaded 9mm handgun.

Police arrested Kyle Matthews, 21, and Crystal Caraballo, 20, both of Far Rockaway.

They are both charged with criminal possession of a firearm and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. In addition, Matthews was also charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

They are scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead later today.
