Bowling Green K-Kids Win $10,000 IKEA Grant
The students used the funds to help needy families.

The Bowling Green K-Kids recently won a $10,000 IKEA Life Improvement Project Grant. The K-Kids proposal that included purchases for Kamp Kiwanis as well as gourmet food for local needy families competed online for votes.
The children recently held a Shopping Night at IKEA Long Island in which they bought household items for families. When the grand total including delivery to the Kamp was tallied at wholesale prices, the K-Kids were informed that $2,700 of the $10,000 grant remained.
The students decided to use the remaining money to buy special items for 20 families that included jams, pancake mix, Swedish cookies, fruit sodas and Swedish fish candies.
“I am glad we can get these families some special treats that are different from the usual canned vegetables we get them at holiday food drives,” Bowling Green K-Kids President Aline Asarian said.
“It is heartwarming to watch the K-Kids carefully consider every possibility as they use this grant to help as many people as they can," Faculty Advisor Lt. Governor-Elect Rich Santer said.
