East Meadow Students to Participate in Hofstra Emancipation Day Program

More than 300 students from schools across Long Island will attend the event.

East Meadow High School students will participate in Hofstra University’s Emancipation Day Program on Thursday.

The program will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

Three hundreds students from schools across Long Island will examine national and local racial divisions at the event.

The program will include a discussion on the Emancipation Proclamation and a dramatic presentation, “The Grand Emancipation Jubilee,” performed by students in Hofstra’s Social Studies Education Program.
