Elderly Nassau Woman Scammed Out Of Thousands: Police
Police say she was trying to give her grandson money to get out of jail, but was the victim of an elder scam.
WESTBURY, NY — A Westbury woman was the victim of an elder scam and was robbed of thousands of dollars. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
According to police, an 82-year-old woman received a call from a man she believed to be her grandson, telling her he was in jail. The man said he was arrested in Pennsylvania and needed $9,400 to pay for a lawyer.
The woman agreed to meet and gave the money to a man she didn't know. Later, the woman's grandson called her and told her he was not in jail.

Police are asking anyone with information about this scam to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
