Man Wanted For Sex Crime, Multiple Open Warrants Arrested: Nassau PD
Police say the man was wanted for multiple incidents around the state, and for others in Nassau County.
UNIONDALE, NY — A man with multiple open warrants from across New York, including one for a sex crime upstate, was arrested while breaking into a home in Uniondale early Sunday, Nassau County police said.
Around 12:15 a.m. Sept. 4, a 911 caller said someone was breaking into a Front Street home. Detectives in the area, with the help of uniformed officers, found and arrested Jerome Bowens, 57, of Uniondale, police said. He had a substance believed to be crack-cocaine on him when he was arrested, police said.
He damaged a basement window and air conditioner while trying to get into the home, police said.

Bowens had multiple open warrants from across New York:
- A 2020 warrant from Poughkeepsie for first-degree criminal sexual act, second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree strangulation.
- A 2013 warrant from Rensselaer County for second-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and third-degree menacing.
- A 2013 warrant from Troy for failure to pay fines.
Bowens was charged with second-degree attempted burglary, resisting arrest, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

In addition, police said that Bowens was responsible for other incidents in Nassau County.
He is charged with third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle for an incident in Uniondale on April 1, 2021. He is also charged with third-degree robbery for an incident in Freeport on Oct. 12, 2020.
Bowens will appear in court once he's medically cleared.
