Port Washington Police Seeks to Hire School Crossing Guards
Part Time Position Pays $30 Per Hour and is Open to All Nassau County Residents

The Port Washington Police District (PWPD) is seeking to hire part time crossing guards to help students of all ages cross busy streets on their way to and from school. Wages for the position start at $30 per hour and it is not exclusive to Port Washington residents, as any resident of Nassau County is eligible for the position. Requirements are minimal, so the PWPD encourages any interested candidates to apply as soon as possible.
“Our crossing guards play a significant role in ensuring the safety of our community’s children,” said PWPD Chief Robert Del Muro. “Streets become significantly more dangerous for students during the times of school drop off and pick up given the increase in traffic volume. Crossing guards provide a crucial service in the protection of our youth, and we hope to see some motivated, passionate individuals take advantage of this excellent opportunity.”
Candidates for the position must be able to physically fulfill the duties of a crossing guard, namely directing pedestrian and vehicular traffic for the purpose of protecting children and others at or near a school crossing or otherwise specified locations. Being able to speak English at a fluent or conversational level is required, as communication with local children is paramount to their safety. Candidates must also be able to transport themselves to their assigned locations and remain there for the entire crossing period. Finally, candidates must be able to withstand inclement weather and meet minimum medical and physical requirements.
