Recipe Contest, Outdoor Movie, Parent Meeting Coming Up This Week

Here's what's happening this week in East Meadow.

Recipe Contest: Kariene Aghabekian, the owner and operator of the soon-to-be-open A Bagel & A Shmeer (532 East Meadow Ave.), encourages residents to take part in the store's "Shmeer" contest. Submit your most unique recipe for a chance to win a dozen bagels and half a dozen every Saturday for one month. The winning recipe will also be featured as the store's grand opening special! Laughs at the Library: Laughs at the Library with stand up comedian Mark Brier begins at 1 p.m. Monday, July 29. All are welcome to attend to tell jokes or just enjoy the show. The event takes place in the downstairs meeting room.

Summer Movie Night: As part of Nassau County's free summer movie nights series, Ice Age: Continental Drift will be shown on the giant screen at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre at Eisenhower Park Thursday, Aug. 1. The movie is rated PG and is 93 minutes. Sunset is at 8:10 p.m.

AARP Driving Class Registration: Registration begins at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, for the Oct. 10 AARP driving class at the East Meadow Library. You must have a current NYS driver’s license to take the class. Fee: $17 for AARP members and $19 for non-members (bring your AARP card to registration). Payment by undated check only. Register in person or by phone; first day of registration is for East Meadow School District residents. Call the library for more information, 794-2570.

Daisy Girl Scout Troop #1563 Parent Meeting: Daisy Girl Scout Troop #1563 will be starting Sept. 26 for girls entering kindergarten in the East Meadow School District. Weekly troop meetings will be on Thursday evenings from 6-7 p.m. at Bowling Green Elementary School. Leader/Parent Meeting will be Saturday, Aug. 3, 1-3 p.m. If your daughter is interested, contact the troop leader at GST1563@yahoo.com.
