Updated: Farmingdale State Evacuation Center Ready
The college canceled all weekend events and postponed move-in.
has canceled all planned events this weekend and will open as an evacuation center beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
All classes and activities on Saturday and Monday have been canceled and residential hall move-in has been postponed to Monday and Tuesday, according to University Police Chief Marvin Fischer.
Nold Hall, the gymnasium immediately to the left of the Melville Road entrance, will act as an evacuation center this weekend for residents.

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and the Office of Emergency Management announced Friday that all local residents who reside south of Sunrise Highway are in a coastal flood zone.
"As such, we advise you to immediately contact friends and family that reside north of Sunrise Highway to seek alternative shelter. Do not wait for the storm," a statement on the OEM website reads.

On Friday afternoon, Red Cross volunteers began preparing Nold Hall as a shelter. Registration tables were set up and signs were hung in the front.
Residents who plan to use the evacuation center are advised that no pets, alcohol, drugs or weapons are permitted in the center. All residents must register upon arrival and departure of the center.
Red Cross volunteers will be enforcing quiet hour rules and ensuring residents keep the shelter clean. Eating and smoking will only be allowed in designated areas.
