Francis Becker Suffers Heart Attack

Becker, 62, is recovering at South Nassau Communities Hospital after suffering a heart attack Saturday, reports say.

Nassau Legislator Francis X. Becker (R-Lynbrook) is recovering in a hospital after suffering a heart attack Saturday, according to multiple reports.

As of Tuesday, Becker, 62, was in stable condition at South Nassau Communities Hospital, according to the East Rockaway Herald.

“His vitals are stable, and they are slowly weaning off some of the supports they have in place…He is awake and happy to be alive,” wrote Becker’s daughter, Beth Sutton, on Facebook, according to the report. “There was a blockage in his heart, and the expert staff at South Nassau immediately removed the blockage...A full recovery is expected.”

We’re all holding our breath and saying a prayer,” Lynbrook Mayor William Hendrick said, according to Newsday. “We’re all very much surprised by this. He was in good health. He didn’t have any vices.”

Becker announced last month that he would not be running for re-election in the fall after 20 years as a county legislator.

I’m just moving on to something else for the moment. I’m not going away,” Becker said, according to Newsday. “I’m not retiring.”
