Ozone Park Man Arrested After Posing As Car Salesman: Police

The incident leading to the 22-year-old man's arrest occurred Oct. 27, police say.

VALLEY STREAM, NY. — A 22-year-old man is facing a grand larceny charge Tuesday after he took over $13,000 from a 77-year-old man while posing as a Toyota salesman, police said.

Nassau County Police said Tuesday that 22-year-old Navendra Balisingh had posed as a salesman at a Valley Stream Highway Toyota dealership, making an agreement with a 77-year-old man to sell him a car on Oct. 27. Balisingh then gave the man a ride to a Chase Bank, where the senior took $4,700 out of an ATM, giving it to Balisingh as what he believed to be a down payment for the Toyota he had agreed to buy, police said.

The next day, Balisingh contacted the 77-year-old and requested more money; the man would subsequently give Balisingh a total of $13,700 and never received the car, police said.
