Brooklyn Woman Arrested After 'Combative' Shoplifting Confrontation: Police

Police say the woman swung a wooden object at a store employee after attempting to leave the store with merchandise she hadn't paid for.

INWOOD, NY. — A Brooklyn woman is facing robbery and weapon possession charges Friday after police said she became combative after attempting to leave an Inwood wholesale store with merchandise she hadn’t paid for.

Nassau County police said Friday that 38-year-old Brooklynite Tara Prentice had attempted to leave Bingo Wholesale with the merchandise just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday. When confronted by a store employee, Prentice swung a wooden object at the employee and became combative, resisting arrest when police arrived, police said.

Prentice now faces charges of first-degree robbery, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, petit larceny and second-degree harassment, police said. Prentice’s arraignment was scheduled for Friday, police said.
