Man Behind Multiple Store Robberies Caught In Nassau: Police

William Foster also faces charges of resisting arrest and assault, police said.

NORTH LAWRENCE, NY — A man without a residence was arrested Tuesday afternoon for assault in North Lawrence.

William Foster, 44, was seen entering the Marshalls store on Rockaway Turnpike, police said.

A loss prevention officer recognized him from a previous larceny and called police. When officers arrived, Foster was spotted in front of Designer Shoe Warehouse and fled the scene refusing to comply with officers' commands, police said.

After a brief foot pursuit, Foster was taken into custody. One officer suffered injuries from Foster's actions, authorities said.

The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

An investigation revealed that Foster was responsible for a robbery on Feb. 6 and two larcenies at Burlington Coat Factory on Rockaway Turnpike.

He is charged with second-degree assault, third-degree robbery, two counts of petit larceny and resisting arrest. Foster was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
