Man Robs Gas Station In Valley Stream: Police

Devon Gomes was arrested and charged for the late-night incident on Tuesday, police said.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A gas station was robbed in Valley Stream at midnight Tuesday, police said.

Devon Gomes, 40, of Queens, entered the BP gas station at 85 N. Central Avenue and began removing items from the shelves, police said.

As Gomes approached the clerk behind the counter, he put his hand in his sweatshirt, claiming he had a gun, authorities said.

Gomes demanded cash from the register and the employee's cell phone, police said. He was given the cash and attempted to flee, but Gomes was taken into custody, police said.

Gomes is charged with first-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing and possession of burglars tools, police said. He was expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
