Nearby: Super Allegedly Stole $20K in Artifacts From Oceanside Jewish Center

Defendant lived in a building on temple grounds.

The resident superintendent of the Oceanside Jewish Center was arrested Monday after allegedly stealing more than $20,000 worth of religious artifacts from the temple between October 2012 to March 2013.

According to Nassau County detectives, Alexander Membreno, 30, resided in a building on the temple grounds, located at 2860 Brower Ave.

Police say an investigation revealed that Membreno pawned many of the "numerous" stolen items for cash at a local pawn shop.

Membreno is being charged with two counts of grand larceny in the third degree.
