Here are the top stories in Five Towns today:
- Patch reports that Kwesi Bovell, 38, of Valley Stream, the former CFO of a Nassau real estate company was sentenced to five years in prison for embezzling over $3 million dollars. He also has to pay restitution of $3.45 million to his employer, The Mulholland Group, a Manhasset-based realty company. (Patch)
- Alex Costello has the details on the Long Island Marathon, back next weekend after being canceled last year due to the pandemic. The three-day event will take place Sept. 17, 18 and 19 at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. There will be a 10K, 5K, 1Km marathon and half marathon. (Patch)
- Jerry Barmash looks at a recent poll by South Nassau Mount Sinai in Oceanside, asking Long Islanders why they refuse the COVID-19 vaccine. 23 percent of the unvaccinated say they will consider the shot now that there is FDA approval. (Patch)
- Jeff Bessen looks at a local scholarship that keeps the memory of a Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department volunteer firefighter who died on 9/11 while working for the FDNY. The Kevin O’Rourke Scholarship was established in 2002 and is still being awarded, this year to Rebecca Adler. (LI Herald)
