Car Critically Hurts Pedestrian In Flushing Crash: NYPD

A woman was hospitalized in critical condition after a car hit her Wednesday morning, police said.

FLUSHING, NY — A pedestrian was in critical condition Wednesday morning after a car slammed into her in Flushing, police said. The 59-year-old woman was crossing Roosevelt Avenue at Main Street at 7:50 a.m. when the black Lincoln hit her, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The victim was taken to Booth Memorial Hospital — the former name of NewYork–Presbyterian/Queens — in critical condition, the spokeswoman said. The driver stayed on the scene, according to the spokeswoman.

The incident prompted state Assemblyman Ron Kim, who represents the area, to call for street safety improvements at the intersection, which is also home to a 7 train station entrance.

Kim's constituents have asked the MTA for more than a year to fix a broken escalator that has forced people to cross the street and use another entrance, he wrote on Twitter.

"We need to also prioritize the needs of pedestrians over vehicles in downtown flushing & across our city," wrote Kim, a Democrat who is also running for public advocate.
