Flushing Man Charged With Homophobic Hate Crime, Cops Say

Brandon McNamara stands accused of beating two men into unconsciousness in Williamsburg Sunday night, police said.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN – A Flushing man accused of viciously beating two men while screaming anti-gay slurs has been arrested and charged with a hate crime, police said.

Brandon McNamara, 25, faces multiple hate crime charges for beating two men into unconsciousness near the corner of Metropolitan and Union avenues, in Williamsburg, early Sunday, police said.

McNamara allegedly lunged at his 29-year-old and 34-year-old victims about 1 a.m., knocking out the 34-year-old with a punch to the face then grabbing the 29-year-old and throwing him against a tree, said police.

The 34-year-old suffered a fractured shoulder and the 29-year-old a broken finger, police said.

Police announced Wednesday that McNamara had been charged with assault and aggravated harassment as a hate crime.

More information about McNamara's arraignment was not immediately available.
