City Adds Another Concert To Forest Hills Stadium's Summer Lineup

The Aug. 20 concert is part of a citywide cultural celebration marking the city's pandemic recovery and the return of live music in NYC.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — The city added another concert to Forest Hills Stadium's burgeoning summer lineup.

On Friday, Aug. 20, a show is coming to Forest Hills Stadium as part of "Homecoming Week," a citywide cultural celebration from Aug. 12 to 21 marking the city's pandemic recovery.

"All in Homecoming Week, five iconic, extraordinary concerts — one in each borough," Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Thursday, announcing that Central Park's mega-concert on Aug. 21 will be preceded by four shows across the other boroughs.

De Blasio used his daily news briefing as a chance to give New Yorkers a "FOMO Alert" — or "fear of missing out alert" — urging them to avoid missing the concert series.

"If you miss it and you live a life of regret, it will not be because your city didn't try to alert you," he said, holding up his handmade FOMO sign.

Rocky Bucano, the executive director of the Universal Hip Hop Museum who is helping organize the concerts, announced the schedule and venues, but didn't hint at the lineup for the Forest Hills show.

At the beginning of July, the city announced that the Central Park mega-concert will be headlined by Paul Simon, Jennifer Hudson and Bruce Springsteen.

About 60,000 people will be able to attend that concert, with about 70 percent of free tickets going to vaccinated people, according to a New York Times report from June.

De Blasio did not add details about the ticketing process for the Forest Hills concert, and it hasn't been added to the calendar on the stadium's website.

The Homecoming Week concerts are among several events marking the return of live music to New York City this summer, including citywide festivals like Governors Ball in Queens and Citizen Live in Manhattan.
