Lawrence Malkin will talk about his book, 'The War Within,' on Oct. 28 in Forest Hills.

The Central Queens Y will host a discussion with journalist and author Lawrence Malkin on Oct. 28 during which he will discuss his book on conflicts within Israeli society.
Malkin will talk about his book, “The War Within: Israel’s Ultra-Orthodox Threat to Democracy and the Nation,” which was co-written with Yuval Elizur, at 1:30 p.m.
The book contends that Israeli society is being torn apart by a conflict from within nearly as much as by struggles against its neighbors.

According to the book, Israel’s ultra-Orthodox community has become more isolated and in conflict with other sectors of the nation’s society over issues such as women’s rights and exemption from military service.
Malkin has served as a foreign correspondent for Time Magazine and the Associated Press, while Elizur acted as deputy editor for Ma’ariv, one of Israel’s largest newspapers.
