Kew Gardens Home For Disabled Queens Residents To Get $233K Upgrade

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — A Queens home for people with developmental disabilities will received hundreds of thousands of dollars to renovate its facilities, local lawmakers announced.

The $233,000 grant — courtesy of a spending bill passed in March from U.S. Rep. Grace Meng — will bring necessary upgrades to the kitchen and bathrooms of the Ohel Children's Home and Family Services at 71-40 Kissena Boulevard, the Forest Hills lawmaker said.

“These much-needed renovations will make it easier for those residing here – now and in the future – to use these areas, which in-turn will enhance their quality of life,” said Meng in a statement.

The Kissena Boulevard building opened in 1978 and serves as a residence for 10 developmentally disabled adult men, according to a press release.

The spending ball allocated more than $10 million in funding for other local projects in Queens including Queens College, Flushing and Ridgewood YMCA, and Flushing Hospital Medical Center, officials said.

Staff at Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services’ residence celebrated the funding earlier this month.
