Man Who Stabbed Pregnant Lover To Death Convicted Of Murder: DA
A Rego Park man could spend the rest of his life in prison after a jury found him guilty of stabbing his girlfriend to death, the DA said.
REGO PARK, QUEENS — A Rego Park man could spend the rest of his life in prison after jurors found he stabbed his pregnant girlfriend to death, prosecutors said.
Jurors this week found Anthony Hobson, 51, guilty of murder — a verdict that bring a nearly three-year-old crime to a close.
The fatal stabbing unfolded in the dead of night Feb. 3, 2019, when a neighbor in Ridgewood heard Jennifer Iriogyen — a 35-year-old mother-of-one later identified as Hobson's girlfriend — screaming, prosecutors said.

"Help! Help! He's trying to kill the baby!" Iriogyen, who was 12-weeks pregnant at the time, yelled, as Hobson dragged her into a stairwell, according to testimony.
There, Hobson repeatedly stabbed Iriogyen in her neck, chest, and stomach using what a witness testified appeared to be a kitchen steak knife, the DA said. Emergency responders rushed her to the hospital, where she died, authorities said.

Prosecutors noted that Hobson ran away with the murder weapon after the stabbing. He made it to Pennsylvania, and turned himself in to law enforcement less than a week after the murder, but the weapon was never found, according to the DA.
"This was a horrific crime," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said, adding that Hobson "now faces a lengthy prison sentence from the Court."
After a two-week trial, a jury found Hobson guilty of murder, tampering with evidence, and criminal possession of a weapon, for which he faces a sentence of 25 years-to-life in prison, the DA said.
Hobson's sentencing is set for Feb. 17, according to the DA, who noted that he might serve additional time for tampering with evidence.
