'Movies Under The Stars' Returns To Forest Hills This Weekend

The free, family-friendly outdoor screenings are a safer way for families to gather as COVID cases rise, said Council Member Lynn Schulman.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — A family-friendly, free outdoor movie series is returning to Forest Hills this weekend.

The series, which is part of the citywide "Movies Under the Stars" initiative, will include three showings in Forest Hills outdoor spaces, starting with a well-reviewed Disney and Pixar film during Memorial Day Weekend.

Here's the full list of films and locations. All of the screenings start at dusk, or around 8:30 p.m. during the summer:

The events, which are sponsored by NYC Parks and Forest Hills Council Member Lynn Schulman, offer a safer way for families to gather during the summer months, especially as citywide COVID cases rise, Schulman said.

"This is a district that has an abundance of Seniors, and as COVID cases continue to climb in the City it is clear we are in dire need of safe, outdoor alternatives for our senior population to be connected with their family," she said.

"These movies will do just that, and I can’t wait to host them right here in the heart of my district!"

The showings in Forest Hills are among more than 150 citywide Movies Under the Stars that will show this summer, all of which are free of cost.

Seats are generally first-come-first served, so event organizers with NYC Parks encourage movie-goers to bring their own blanket and arrive early, but some chairs are reserved for seniors and people with disabilities (contact (212) 360-1430 or accessibility@parks.nyc.gov for accessibility information).

Movie-goers are also encouraged to bring things to eat and drink, but glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are prohibited, according to organizers.
