Oddities Expert Bringing Kew Gardens Cemetery To Life Saturday

Denny Daniel will present his antiques collection, called the Museum of Interesting Things, at the cemetery's silent film event.

KEW GARDENS, QUEENS — An oddities expert and an exhibit of silent films are bringing a Kew Gardens funeral home to life this weekend.

Denny Daniel, who runs a traveling antiques exhibition called the Museum of Interesting Things, is giving a lecture on his collection (which includes a 1905 Edison phonograph and a tin model of the Coney Island Cyclone) at the Maple Grove Cemetery center in Kew Gardens on Saturday.

The two-hour lecture, which begins at 2 p.m., is part of a silent films exhibit at the center, which is open to the public during business hours through the end of March (except on Sundays).

Friends Of Maple Grove, a non-profit that aims to help people appreciate the cemetery's "park like ambiance" and history, is organizing the event and ongoing exhibit.

Tickets for the lecture are free as long as attendees RSVP by Friday (contact details here), and day-of walk-ins will cost $5 per-person.
