Cops: Scammers Targeting Local Seniors
Two recent scams taking place in Forest Hills and Rego Park.

Police are warning about a scam targeting elderly residents in Forest Hills and Rego Park.
On Aug. 2, two middle-aged women accompanied by a young girl rang the doorbell of a senior citizen who lives in the confines of the 112th Precinct.
The women asked the homeowner if the child could use the bathroom and once they had entered the house, one of the woman stole jewelry from the bedroom.

During a second recent incident in Forest Hills, a senior received a telephone call from someone pretending to be Time Warner Cable.
The caller told the homeowner that their cable bill would be turned off for non-payment and that the only way to avoid losing their service would be to go to 7-11 and purchased two “Green Dot payment cards” in the sum of $440 each.

The caller was then told to supply the caller with the card numbers.
Police are asking Forest Hills and Rego Park residents to alert elderly neighbors and relatives of the scams.
