Weekend Park Events Include Scavenger Hunt, Two Exhibits

Forest Park is hosting a scavenger hunt this weekend, while the Queens Botanical Garden is hosting two ongoing exhibits.

The scavenger hunt will kick off at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the park’s visitor center, which is located at Forest Park Drive and Woodhaven Boulevard.

Urban Park Rangers will lead the hunt, which is being held through the city’s Parks Department.

The Queens Botanical Garden, located at 43-50 Main St. in Flushing, will keep its doors open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. for two exhibits – NYC Eco House and Invasive Pigments.

The former is an interactive display that will allow attendees to see underneath the floor and behind the walls of a home. The event will teach participants how to save energy and money as well as protect the natural world around them.

The latter exhibit is a series of watercolor-like paintings that explore the migration and proliferation of weeds and other plants in tandem with human movement.

Artist Ellie Irons created colors by extracting pigments from these invasive plants and uses them to construct map-like portraits to show how the species move into local ecosystems.

Both displays are free with Queens Botanical Garden admission, which is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for students with ID and children between the ages of 3 and 12 years and free for members.
