Afropunk Noise Complaints Result In Man Being Threatened, Report Says
"I got so many messages threatening me and my family with violence," the victim reportedly said.

FT. GREENE, BROOKLYN – A man who complained about noise from the Afropunk music festival has been threatened and suffered online harassment, according to a report.
Menacing messages started after the victim started planning to attend a closed-door Community Board 2 meeting between residents and organizers of the Fort Greene event, amNewYork reported.
The man, who did not want to be named, invited neighbors to voice their concerns about excessive noise running late.

That’s when the online threats from strangers started, according to the report.
“I got so many messages threatening me and my family with violence. All said I was a racist, a gentrifier, a honk,” said the man, described as a native New Yorker who’s lived in Brooklyn for 10 years, told the newspaper.

amNewYork said the man has not filed a police report because he wants to shield his family.
The meeting between several CB 2 residents and Afropunk organizers took place on Aug. 8 and the festival reps eventually said they couldn’t do anything about the noise concerns, according to amNewYork.
Afropunk reps did not comment to the publication.
“I understand the event is loved by many, and it should continue, but the event organizers and the attendees should understand that it’s hard for some of the people who live here, especially when it goes until 12:30 a.m. and you have to be up for work early the next day,” the victim was quoted as saying.
The festival is schedule for Aug. 26 and 27. Headliners will include Anderson Paak, Solange and Thundercat.
