Man Shot, Killed Outside NYC Housing Complex, Police Say

BROOKLYN, NY — A 27-year-old man was fatally shot outside a Brooklyn public housing complex Saturday evening, police said.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m., when police got a call reporting a man shot in the vicinity of the Lafayette Gardens public housing complex near Dekalb and Kent Aves. in Clinton Hill.

Officers found the victim, who had been shot once in the torso, reportedly outside the building. He was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has since been identified as Jahshyim Whitfield. According to reports, Whitfield was on his way to pick up his 9-year-old daughter from a local beauty parlor when the attack occurred.

An NYPD spokesperson told Patch that the shooting remains under investigation. Police have not disclosed a possible motive, and no arrests have been made.
