Downtown Brooklyn Fire Engulfs Jewelry Store, Dentist's Office
A witness says she watched as the jewelry-store owner tried to re-enter the burning building, "like a captain and his ship."
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, NY — Flames tore through a line of storefronts along Fulton Street near the intersection of Fulton and Flatbush Avenue on Wednesday afternoon, sending billows of smoke over Downtown Brooklyn and causing a frenzy on street level.
Reports of a fire on the bottom floor of 585 Fulton St. came in just before 4 p.m., according to the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY). The building contains a hole-in-the wall jewelry shop called Kims Jewelry and Watches; a MetroPCS cellphone store; the offices of Atlantic Dental; and a couple other shops.
An FDNY spokesman said the "small fire" caused no injuries. It was declared under control by around 4:45 p.m.
