Brooklyn Man Loses Wife's 'Irreplacable' Judy Blume Book; Judy Blume Offers to Help

A husband’s desperate attempt to recover his wife’s “keepsake” copy of Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret reached the ears of God herself — aka, Judy Blume — on Thursday evening.

According to the Free Williamsburg blog, the husband posted “Lost” posters all over Greenpoint with the following message.

I accidentally gave this book away on Saturday July 25th in a box on the corner of Green & Franklin. This book is extremely important to my wife. It was a keepsake from her mother and is irreplaceable. On the inside cover is a note that reads “Christmas 1991.” If you happened to pick up this book can you please get in touch with me.

The story got picked up around New York, and by evening, Blume — who’s been known to pamper her readers, and loves a good publicity stunt — had offered to help.

Judy Blume said on Twitter that she knows she can’t restore the sentimental value of the old copy, but she hopes a signed replica will at lease ease the loss enough to save this Greenpoint marriage.
