Clinton Hill Athletes Make It to Division III All-Star Game

Guards Tahrike Carter and Tony Vails will play in the National NABC 2013 Division III All-Star Game on Sat. March 23 in Salem, Va.

 

The Reese's Division III College All-Star Game tips off March 23, right before the NCAA Division III men’s basketball championship semi-finals at Salem Civic Center in Virginia, and two of the neighborhood's own — Tahrike Carter and Tony Vails — will be representing Brooklyn on the court. 

Carter and Vails graduated from Clinton Hill's Benjamin Banneker Academy in 2009, where they both played and excelled in the sport.

Carter went on to Rhode Island College to major in management, where he is a guard for and captain of the Anchormen. Vails now attends York College to major in movement science, where he also plays point guard for the Cardinals.    

The two will reunite on Saturday when they join the Reese’s West all-star team, coached by the 2009 winner of the NABC Distinguished Service Award, Mike Turner. He was head coach at Albion College for 38 seasons and completed his coaching career with a record of 527-319, the most victories of any coach in program history.

The teams are composed of two senior student-athletes from each of the eight regions in Division III nominated by coaches and selected by a panel of coaches representing each region in Division III.

Division III is the largest membership division in the NCAA, with approximately 450 member schools, 43 voting conferences and more than 170,000 student-athletes.
