Fort Greene To Hold Expo To Get Teens Engaged, Prevent Gun Violence
City Council Member Laurie Cumbo is holding an exposition with over 40 agencies and organizations to get kids engaged and away from guns.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — City council member Laurie Cumbo is hosting a Youth Summer Resource Expo this Sunday to combat gun violence in Fort Greene and surrounding neighborhoods. More than 40 city agencies, nonprofits and cultural groups will be there to help young people become more engaged in their communities and have fun activities to do to keep them busy, especially during the spring and summer.
The purpose of the expo is to prevent a spike in gun violence as it gets warmer, as the neighborhoods' educational district has seen in the past, according to Cumbo's office.
It is meant to "help families identify community partners that can offer youth a positive alternative such as internships, camps, and arts classes to promote personal, academic and professional development," Cumbo's office said in a release.
