Fort Greene Pet Shop Forced To Close After Fire, Reports Say

Who's Your Doggy, at 354 Myrtle Ave., closed last week because of damages to the building from a June fire.

FORT GREENE, NY — A Myrtle Avenue pet store was forced to shutter last week because damages from a fire were left without fixes for months by their landlord, the Brooklyn Reader reported.

Who's Your Doggy, at 354 Myrtle Ave., closed their doors on Jan. 14 after roof leaks, mold and more sprung up in the building. Despite the issues, the landlord left the conditions untouched since the June fire, the website reported.

"The fire burned the roof, but the landlord never replaced it," owner Tracy Klonowski told the Brooklyn Reader. "So every time it rained, it would pour all the way into our grooming room, causing more damage to our ceiling. The sheetrock of my ceiling got so wet, it eventually collapsed."

On June 13, a fire ravaged the six-story apartment building where Who's Your Doggy leased space in since 2015. Since then, the roof collapsed in the store and black mold formed in the store, forcing most of the staff to close, according to the Brooklyn Reader.

The landlord told Klonowski they were waiting for the insurance company to repair the building, but she decided to shutter the store — which she has run in different locations around the neighborhood for 11 years — and focus just on her Bed-Stuy location.

"It was hard. People came to the store crying," she told the website. "I have been in the neighborhood for 11 years and I have a loyal following."
