Noose Found Hanging in Fort Greene Park
The Parks Department confirmed a noose was found hanging from a tree near Brooklyn Tech on Monday.
FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Police are investigating after a noose was found in Fort Greene Park earlier this week, according to the Department of Parks and Recreation.
A parks department spokesperson said the noose was immediately taken down and the NYPD was notified. An NYPD spokeswoman was not able to find any evidence of the investigation, however.
The Daily News reported on Wednesday the noose was found hanging from a tree by a parks employee near Brooklyn Technical High School at about 2 p.m. on Monday.

A Walk in the Park, a blog run by Geoffrey Croft of NYC Parks Advocates, quoted the employee as being unnerved by the discovery.
“I felt uncomfortable seeing that hanging there. Back in the day they used to hang innocent people, people of color,” he told A Walk in the Park.

The Daily News reports anti-semitic graffiti was also found on a tree stump near the noose. The graffiti read, "They should have gotten rid of you when they had the chance," according to Croft.
