A Sunday #BlackLivesMatter march that began at noon in Brooklyn (and traveled through Harlem) resulted in ”violent arrests” in the Bronx around 6 p.m., according to participants documenting the clashes online.
As of 6:30 p.m., an NYPD spokeswoman says she cannot confirm any arrests at the protest.

Rye’s caption says police made ”violent arrests” and ”attacked a woman on the sidewalk.”
Keegan Stephan, a well-known NYC activist and organizer, says he witnessed police arrest at least one protester back in Brooklyn “for not being on the sidewalk.”
And once the march reached Harlem, he photographed additional arrests — each one apparently more aggressive.
Another participant shared a video on Twitter (embedded below) of a woman being calmly handcuffed as the crowd chants, ”Shame! Shame!”
While the protesters were still marching through Brooklyn, Reuters reporter Sebastien Malo, who’s embedded in the crowd, says he witnessed two arrests.
Sunday’s #BlackLivesMatter march is a commemoration of Ferguson resident Michael Brown’s death exactly one year ago. From the event invite:
Last August, the execution of another unarmed young Black man, Michael Brown on the streets of Ferguson Mo, ignited a rebellion against racist police violence.
That rebellion, which came to be known as Black Lives Matter, spread across the nation and the world.
The Black Summer coalition, which includes many of the forces that have been fighting police violence, invites you to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Ferguson on Sunday, Aug. 9 at 12 noon in front of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
