BROOKLYN, NY — An accidental collision in a busy Brooklyn subway station turned violent Tuesday evening when one man slashed another, police said.

A 55-year-old man was standing at the entrance of the Jay Street-MetroTech subway station, on Jay and Willoughby streets, about 6 p.m. when another man bumped into him and subsequently punched him, according to the NYPD.

The straphanger, in an act of self defense, tried to push the assailant away from him, inadvertently intensifying the violence as the man then pulled a kitchen knife out of his back pocket and slashed the 55-year-old in the back and face, police said.
