Sunday Smorgasburg Moving to Prospect Park

Brooklyn Bridge Park will no longer host the borough's best-loved outdoor food market.

The Sunday edition of Smorgasburg — Brooklyn’s wildly popular, summer-only ”flea food market” — is moving from its longtime home in Brooklyn Bridge Park to a more centralized lot in Prospect Park, organizers announced on Thursday.

Because the former ”is turning our patch of pavement into beautiful new parkland next year,” organizers say, they’ve been forced to move the Sunday market eastward to ”a new home in the heart of Brooklyn’s loveliest green space.”

The new location will be open every Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., through October 11, with the same 100 vendors you know and love. We found a beautiful spot called Breeze Hill, which has plenty of room for the market and a shady lawn for hanging out and noshing.

Breeze Hill is just north of the LeFrak Center at Lakeside, and just off the main bike/jogging road across from the Lincoln Road entrance to the park. The closest subway is the Q to Prospect Park, but you can also walk from the F to 15th St. or the 2/3 to Grand Army Plaza. Find full directions and map.

“We’re sad to leave Brooklyn Bridge Park, but it’s hard to complain when our new home is literally Brooklyn’s backyard,” says Smorgasburg co-founder Eric Demby is a statement.

The Prospect Park Alliance is clearly tickled as well. “Bringing Smorgasburg to Breeze Hill is a wonderful way to enliven an underutilized area on the Park’s east side,” says Sue Donoghue, alliance president.

On summer Saturdays, Smorgasburg’s 100 vendors can be found in Williamsburg (at 90 Kent Avenue) and Long Island City, Queens (at 43-29 Crescent Street).
