• Water district talks plans, notes Fredonia suit date (observertoday.com) — Fredonia’s plan to buy water from Pomfret and shut its reservoir is moving ahead but faces a lawsuit with a key court hearing set for Jan. 9 in Mayville. North County Water District officials say coordination with Pomfret’s Phase 2 water project and a shared tank will determine when Fredonia can actually switch over, while monthly planning meetings continue without village officials present.
   

• University Police members receive SUNY honors (observertoday.com) — Two University Police officers at SUNY Fredonia have earned the SUNY system’s Professional Service Award for their standout work improving training, administration, and campus safety. Their efforts range from modernizing department forms and evidence management to leading firearms, fitness, and defensive tactics instruction, helping create a more efficient and better-prepared police force serving the Fredonia campus community.
   

• Panama mayor part of meeting on downsizing (observertoday.com) — County leaders are weighing how to handle gas well assessments and municipal consolidation, with Fredonia highlighted as the historic birthplace of natural gas in Chautauqua County. Panama’s mayor says his village isn’t interested in dissolving, but is watching reassessment rules, gas well taxation, and state guidance that could also affect how properties and energy issues are handled across the region.
