Affordable Housing Apartments Approved For Freeport
The 31-unit building is expected to create 60 construction jobs.
FREEPORT, NY — An affordable housing complex has been granted final approval to be built in Freeport.
The Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency said the Westchester developer plans to construct a 31-unit rental apartment building.
The town's approval includes 48 on-site parking spaces alongside the building at 206 Smith St.

It will contain one studio apartment, 28 one-bedroom units and two two-bedroom apartments. Ten units are to be reserved for people in need of supportive services, the IDA said.
The $16.5 million project is expected to create 60 construction industry jobs and
one part-time permanent job. The property is also expected to produce $101,000 in
annual property taxes upon completion of a proposed 30-year PILOT agreement.

The project is in line to receive $5 million in financial aid from the state.
"This is an economic development project that the Village of Freeport desperately
needs and this is what stabilizes taxes in the village," Freeport Mayor Robert
Kennedy said in a statement. "Projects like this are why we have not had a tax increase in over nine consecutive years."
