Long Island Man Nabbed In Foot Chase After Loaded Gun Found In Traffic Stop: PD
The gun was found in waistband, and after he bolted he tried to hide it in a fence, Nassau police said.
BALDWIN, NY —A Roosevelt man was caught with a loaded handgun in traffic stop in Baldwin early Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.
Ryan Horton was seen by an officer speeding through a red traffic light on Grand Avenue in a 2018 Mercedes, police said, adding that the officer activated his emergency lights and conducted a state Vehicular Traffic Law stop at the intersection of Grand Terrace Avenue at around 1:40 a.m.
During the stop, officers saw a handgun in Horton's waistband, and when they tried to place him in handcuffs to remove the gun safely, he became "combative and violent," preventing the officers from arresting him, according to police.

Horton then ran away southbound on Grand Avenue while holding his waistband, police said.
Officers on foot caught up with him in the lot of Grand Avenue, and after a brief struggle, a black loaded handgun was found at the scene after Horton tried sticking it in a nearby fence to hide it, police said, adding, that there were no injuries reported.

No other people were with Horton, police said.
Horton has been charged with two counts of second, third-and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, as well as obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
He will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
