NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Anne T. Donnelly was sworn in today as Nassau County's new district attorney. She replaces Acting District Attorney Joyce Smith, who was appointed to the position after Madeline Singas left last year to serve as a justice on the New York Court of Appeals. Donnelly is the fourth consecutive woman to hold the position.

Donnelly has spent her entire professional career working as a prosecutor in the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office. She served as an assistant district attorney for 32 years before her election in 2021.

Donnelly said her priorities for the office include keeping the residents of Nassau County safe, making sure that dangerous individuals are put behind bars and providing resources for individuals who need support and assistance. She said she is committed to restoring morale and standing firmly with the staff of the office, as well as members of the law enforcement community who work hand-in-hand with prosecutors.
