GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending July 19.
July 13
- Two victims report their identities were stolen and used to open fraudulent bank accounts.
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be a faulty battery.
- A motorcyclist on Rockaway Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and passing a red traffic light signal.
- Garden City detectives are investigating a serious auto crash on Clinton Road. Multiple people were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.
July 14

- A Garden City business reported a fraudulent check for $21,000 was written against the company’s bank account.
- A fraudulent bank account was reportedly opened using the identity of another person without permission.
- Officers investigated a report of multiple fraudulent charges against a victim’s credit card account.
July 15
- Two victims report their identities were stolen and used to open fraudulent bank accounts.
- A vehicle reportedly left the scene after striking another vehicle on Ring Road.
- A truck driver was charged with striking the Cherry Valley overpass and disregarding bridge clearance signs.
- A victim’s credit card was reportedly stolen in the mail and used to make unauthorized ATM withdrawals and purchases.
July 16

- A victim’s personal information was reportedly used to open fraudulent bank and debit card accounts.
- Graffiti was discovered on a work trailer and a MTA retaining wall on Greenridge Avenue.
- A truck driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving in a non-commercial zone and unsecured cargo.
July 17
- Officers investigated a vehicle stopped on Stewart Avenue where the occupants were involved in a dispute. Upon investigation, the driver, a 28-year-old male, was arrested for DWI, impeding traffic and unlicensed operation.
- A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and nonoperational headlamps.
- Officers responded to the vicinity of Garden Street for a report of a man and woman in a fight. Upon their arrival, the man drove away and struck two trees before fleeing the scene on foot. The officers searched the area, but couldn't find him. Upon further investigation, it was determined the vehicle was reported stolen from Brooklyn and the driver was wanted for domestic assault. The vehicle was impounded, and the investigation is ongoing.
- A man was observed on surveillance cameras removing a package from a Meadow Street porch.
July 18
- A fraudulent insurance account was reportedly opened using a victim’s identity without permission.
- Officers reported multiple power and traffic light outages in the central section of the village.
- Firefighters and officers responded to Arthur Street for a blown transformer and a fallen power line.
- A truck driver on Clinton Road was charged with out of class operation and no highway use tax permit.
July 19
- As a result of an ongoing investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a 37-year-old man for possessing and selling cocaine. He was charged with criminal sale of a narcotic drug, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and criminal possession of a narcotic drug.
- Firefighters and police responded to Adelphi University for a small kitchen fire. The fire was extinguished, and the area safeguarded. No injuries were reported.
- Officers and firefighters responded to the Merillon Avenue railroad station for a report of people stuck in the elevator. It was determined the occupants were able to exit the elevators before the arrival of emergency responders. MTA inspection personnel responded to the scene.
- A driver on Meadow Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and passing a stop sign.
- A driver on Cherry Valley Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and unregistered vehicle.
